Luark Ranch & Outfitters, LLC, Pat and Niki Luark
About
Luark Ranch and Outfitters is a 5th-generation family operation based in Burns, Colorado, spanning Eagle and Routt counties. The ranch serves as a gateway to the Flat Tops Wilderness and features high-altitude territory on King Mountain, where elevations reach up to 10,000 feet. They specialize in professional hunts for Elk and Mule Deer, offering both guided experiences and log cabin rentals for day hunting. Because they are a working cattle ranch, the land is managed year-round to support healthy big game populations, providing hunters with a “fair chase” experience in one of Colorado’s most iconic landscapes.
The operation is uniquely self-sufficient, featuring a USDA-certified wild game processing facility on-site. This allows hunters the convenience of having their harvest boned, processed, wrapped, and frozen immediately after the hunt—a rare service for wilderness outfitters. Accommodations are steeped in history, including a guest house built in 1912 that was originally a “mail-order” home delivered by team and wagon. For those seeking a more remote stay, the ranch offers log cabins on King Mountain, surrounded by 1,280 private acres of wilderness and wildlife.
Outside of the fall hunting seasons, the Luarks offer a wide range of Western activities, including cattle drives, overnight pack trips, and tubing on the Colorado River. They also provide specialized services like horse rentals and a “horse hotel” with boarding facilities for those traveling with their own stock. Whether you are looking to call in a bull during the archery season or want to experience a traditional summer pack trip to the Flat Tops, Pat and Niki provide a personal, family-driven adventure that has kept some clients returning for over 23 years.
