Jackson Outfitters provides premier guided big‑game hunts across Colorado’s renowned Units 70, 70E, and 61, offering access to vast Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and select private lands. Our hunts in the Lizard Head Wilderness take place in a pristine, non‑motorized landscape of aspen, pine, and fir spread over rugged ridges, creek valleys, and rocky outcrops. This high‑elevation terrain is known for its beauty, challenge, and occasional trophy elk and deer. All Wilderness hunts are conducted entirely on foot, requiring strong physical conditioning and patience.

In Unit 70 and 70E, we hunt from the high country near Telluride down through the middle‑elevation forests of the Norwood area. Elevations range from 10,000 to 6,000 feet, allowing us to follow elk as they descend during the fall season. Side canyons, timbered parks, mesas, and creek bottoms provide diverse habitats and multiple access points for multi‑day hunts. Our 5‑day guided package includes field transportation, a sack lunch, calling, trophy and meat care, and pack‑out assistance. Lodging recommendations or canvas‑tent camp accommodations are available.

Jackson Outfitters also specializes in trophy bull elk and cow elk hunts in Unit 61, where we hunt private property and extensive public lands in the Uncompahgre National Forest and BLM. This terrain features high‑desert plateaus, deep canyons, scrub oak, ponderosa, and lodgepole pine — ideal rutting habitat for a resident elk herd. Bulls harvested typically range from 280″–330″, with 350+″ bulls seen regularly. Cow hunts offer high success and are accessible to hunters of all physical abilities, with options ranging from glassing from vehicles/ATVs to challenging canyon hunts. Lodging, meals, and transportation are provided.

We also offer mule deer buck and black bear hunts in Unit 61 and are permitted for mule deer in Units 52, 411, 521, 53, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, and 70. Deer licenses are by draw, with landowner vouchers available; bear licenses are draw or over‑the‑counter depending on season.
